When A Crisis Arises

If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, but not in immediate danger, please call our crisis line at 785-515-6143. This line has trained staff available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week to provide support and referral to the right resources to meet your needs.

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is a national hotline in the United States designed to provide immediate assistance to individuals experiencing mental health crises, including suicidal thoughts. Individuals can reach the lifeline by dialing or texting 988 or chatting 988lifeline.org.

Why contact crisis services?

When life reaches a point that you feel you can’t manage on your own, it is a good time to call our crisis services. This may include emotional distress, excessive sadness, family conflict, significant loss, substance related crisis and many other stressors. The following are some common reasons for calling the crisis line:

  • Thoughts of suicide or death
  • Self-harming behavior (self-mutilation, refusing to eat, etc)
  • Thoughts of harming someone else
  • Major conflicts with family members including children, perhaps to the point of involving law enforcement or jeopardizing family safety
  • Sudden or traumatic loss of a loved one or anything that impacts your ability to live your life in a normal way
  • Lack of access to basic needs including food, shelter, and medications
  • Behaviors that create risk to self or others

Crisis Intervention Services

The CKMHC crisis team offers a variety of services to help stabilize both adults and children in crisis. These services are provided by various team members and are based on medical necessity. These services include:

Evaluation and Risk Assessment: This is a meeting with a qualified mental health professional to evaluate the current situation and develop a plan based on individual needs. This plan may include referral to a hospital for more intensive services or a follow-up plan in the community. This service may be conducted at the office, a local hospital or emergency room, or via tele-video.

Crisis Case Management: A crisis case manager works one-on-one with an individual to help address any needs that may be interfering with recovery. This may include a focus on food, housing, relationships, or connecting with community resources. Crisis case managers often provide follow-up calls and contacts after a crisis incident to ensure well-being in the community.

Mobile Crisis: Mobile crisis services involve our team of behavioral health professionals who provide timely, on-site crisis intervention. Our team travels to the location of a person in crisis, such as their home, workplace, or a community setting, to offer assessment, support, and stabilization. The goal is to de-escalate the crisis, provide necessary care, and connect individuals to appropriate ongoing services and resources. This service can be accessed by calling our direct crisis line at 785-515-6143.

911 is always the call to make when there is an immediate threat of safety. For all other crises, call us at 785-515-6143 or 785-823-6322.
